Propecia, also known as Finasteride, is the first oral medication to be approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the purpose of preventing hair loss. A prescription drug is taken in the form of a pill. It has been available in the U.S. market since 1997.
Propecia has been overwhelmingly successful for the past nine years. Almost all studies show that the drug produces some sort of beneficial effect for the majority of users. A handful of studies indicate that around eighty percent of Propecia users experience a cessation in hair loss. In a significant number of cases, hair loss was not only prevented, it was reversed - Propecia actually caused a good amount of hair to grow back.
Of course, a few things must be understood about Propecia. First, the effects of the drug are not immediate. For the most part, you will have to wait around three months before you see any results. If you stop treatment before you’ve past three months, you may not see any results at all. It is best to be patient.
Second, you must treat the use of Propecia as an ongoing treatment. Keep in mind that balding is an ongoing process. The drug helps you stave off this process; delays it for years. Once you stop using Propecia, however, you can expect to see accelerating hair loss and hair thinning. With this in mind, you might consider using Propecia for as long as it works for you.

As guys, we like to think that we are capable of handling anything on our own. I know that this is impossible for women to understand and drives them absolutely crazy, but it’s just one of those things that’s wired into us. Even in situations where we are facing an obstacle that we have no experience or training that would give us the ability to handle it, we like to think that we will simply be able to figure it out or that something inside of us will somehow allow us to accomplish that task. For a classic example, just look no farther than men’s across the board refusal to stop and ask for directions. We could be one hundred percent lost, but we would much rather drive around in circles for hours than ever think for an instant about stopping at a gas station and asking someone who actually knows the area.

Because of our insistence on doing everything on our own, there are times when we don’t seek out assistance that could truly help us in major areas of our lives. The topic that comes to mind is hair loss. For many men, although they desperately want to reduce their hair loss, they are afraid to bring up the topic to their doctor. However, as a guy who finally did this, I cannot emphasize how worth talking to your doctor about your hair loss it is. By talking to your doctor, there is a good chance that you will be able to get a Propecia prescription. As you may have heard, Propecia is one of the only hair loss treatments that get results. So, if you are tired of losing your hair, swallow your pride and bring up the topic the next time you visit your doctor.
